International research cooperation, informal exchange via email, business trips, export of scientific equipment, the development of new technologies or cooperation with visiting researchers may be affected by export control restrictions. Critical individual cases must be recognised as such in order not to violate applicable law. In this context, special attention is paid to so-called dual-use goods, which can be used for both civilian and military purposes.

Consequences of violations

Violations of export control regulations are punishable by heavy fines or even imprisonment for individuals and heavy fines for universities, in addition to the corresponding loss of reputation.
