2025 at a glance
Horizon Europe
The Swiss universities’ re-association with the EU research program is a major achievement. Three highly competitive ERC Starting Grants have already been awarded to early career researchers at the ºÚÁϳԹÏ, representing total funding of around CHF 5.1 million.
Bernese innovation
The University plays a crucial role in Bern’s standing as a hub of knowledge and innovation. In a University first, ten new businesses were registered based on research, technologies and expertise from the ºÚÁϳԹÏ.
Fascinating world of science
The fifth Night of Research attracted around 10,000 visitors. 800 researchers offered insights into their work and brought science to life through experiments, presentations and interactive stations.
Education in high demand
Interest in pursuing a course of studies at the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï keeps rising. Student enrollment continued its steady growth and the Bachelor’s open days in 2025 set a new record with nearly 5,000 interested visitors in attendance.
International exchange
A framework agreement for joint supervision of doctorates was formulated in connection with the University’s ENLIGHT membership and support services were stepped up. These efforts will enable students and employees to help shape the educational landscape going forward and acquire highly sought international skillsets.
Sustainable development
The faculties and Central administration used a participatory approach to define actions for the 2030 Climate Roadmap. One of these actions – an initial ideas competition – has already been implemented and four projects have been selected for funding.
Structural deficit
Inflation, salary measures, rising student enrollment and higher demands placed on academic operations have caused the ºÚÁϳԹÏ’s expenses to rise faster than its income. The University Executive Board has therefore passed a two-percent University-wide cost-cutting measure.
